CLUB HISTORY

Wierda RG was founded in 1995 by Angela Balcanu, she began with five gymnasts and over 25 years built up her club to be a powerhouse of the sport in South Africa. Over 25 years, Wierda RG has had numerous gymnasts representing South Africa at a Continental, World and Commonwealth Level.

Angela herself was an Internationally qualified coach and judge, participating at a Continental and Commonwealth level as her gymnasts competed. She prided herself in her personal relationships with her gymnasts, guiding them not only in their gymnastics careers but in life as well.

At the end of 2019 Angela retired to her home country of Romania and Allison Beyers took over the reigns of the club. Allison had been one of the five original Wierda RG gymnasts and an assistant coach to Angela from 1999 onwards.

Allison is also an Internationally qualified coach and judge, having competed, coached and judged at National and International levels including Continental and World Championships.
